Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and other types of algorithms are already making their way into medical practice. Unfortunately, not all of these AI tools are actually desirable or useful for the clinicians they are intended for. In this pilot study, we are investigating the process in which clinical AI tools are systematically evaluated (or “vetted”) prior to purchase and deployment to be able to understand what steps lead to a successful evaluation, and ultimately how to improve clinical AI tools to maximize their benefit. We received a mini SEAD grant from Virginia Tech’s Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology (ICAT) to support this research.
